THE FORCE OF HOPE - Pastor Faith Oyedepo
Job 14.7: There is hope of a tree if it be cut down,
that it will sprout again and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.
Isaiah 43.19: Behold, I will do a new thing. It shall
spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness.
Threats of sickness and strange disease,
rising unemployment and failing global economies is enough to make life look
hopeless to many, but that is not us as believers. 2Timothy 3.1 states the last
days will be perilous, so it’s part of the agenda. However, the good news is
that though all these have been prophesied, it is not stated anyplace that it
will be part of our lives. Psalm 91.7 assures us that ‘A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand BUT it will not come near you’.
When things happen state to yourself: I am not among. My name is not there. It
shall not be my case. There may not be hope for others, but there is hope for
me. No matter the current appearance of things, there is hope for me.
You may have
not yet seen what you have been asking God for, and the devil is working hard
to make you lose hope, but he is a liar. The blessing of God is closer than can
be imagined - may He open your eyes to see it.
Do nothing
unscriptural towards a desired end. It’s not part of the covenant. Don’t consciously
create problems for others in a bid to gain what you want. It is not biblical,
and is not what the Word teaches. What you sow is what you reap.
We have a
lively hope in Christ Jesus, but how do we maintain it?
1)
Have a mental picture of your desired future.
Genesis 13.14-15. What do you see? (a great future for my home, a glorious
marriage, a prosperous future. Intimacy and our desires fulfilled in the
relationship).
2)
Feed on God’s Word continuously, it will build
up your faith - Romans 10.17. Hope in God will not let you be put to shame (Romans
5.5) – though shame may happen to the world about us, but it’s not our
inheritance.
By living a
life of hope, we stand to enjoy:
1)
Supernatural joy. Romans 12.12 – you will be
ever joyful because you are rooted in God, not in situations or circumstances.
Habakkuk 3.17-19 – rejoice no matter what is the appearance of things.
2)
Freedom from depression. It is a thief of your
future.
3)
Empowerment to take appropriate steps. By hope,
Abraham kept believing for his miracle from God (Romans 4.18-20). Never lose
hope because with God, all things are possible (Luke 1.37) and your case is not
closed as long as you are alive.
In this, be
wary of the enemies of hope:
1)
Wrong association. Mind your friends and
associates. If you move with hopeless people, it will reflect on your life. Change
friends rather than have them change your destiny because evil communications
will corrupt good manners (1Corinthians 15.33). Lose any friends who stifles
your walk with God or before whom you can not openly live out your faith
Fight every
expression of hopelessness in your life, as soon it rises, and give nothing
room to take root.
